DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

After the establishment of Shahid Chamran University (Jondishapur), and before 1969, the university's teaching centers were active in teaching the basic science courses of the university. In 1969, in order to further expand and create new disciplines, the university agreed to the establishment of the Faculty of Science with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the main courses. Meanwhile, the Statistics Department and Computer Sciences were also established.

Department of Mathematics remained as one of the departments of the Faculty of Science until the year 1977. In this year, mathematics, computer science, and statistics groups separated from the Faculty of Science and independently created the Computer Services Unit of the first faculty of mathematical sciences and computer in the country.

Our faculty comprises of 3 different departments: Department of Mathematics (Pure and Applied), Department of Statistics, and Department of Computer Science. Both departments of Mathematics and Statistics were awarded as "center of excellence" by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.

The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest and highest-ranking departments in south-west of Iran, which has had very good and powerful training experts in different disciplines of mathematics.

At present, faculty members specialize in various areas, such as algebra, analysis, topology in pure mathematics, and operations research, optimization, numerical analysis and dynamical systems in applied mathematics with a total of 28 academic staff, out of which 2 are full professors, 7 are associate professors, and 19 are assistant professors.

At present, the department is running with 233 students at B.Sc. (Graduate), 162 at M.Sc. (Post Graduate), and 35 at the Ph.D. level in all different branches and disciplines of mathematics.
