Journal of Advanced Applied Geology (J. Adv. Appl. Geol.)

Following the plan of Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for the professionalization of scientific journals, the Journal of Advanced Applied Geology and the Science of Shahid Chamran University Journal were separated. The first issue of the Journal of Advanced Applied Geology, was published in 2011.

This journal mainly concentrates on the original and applied research to promote scientific growth and eliminate the existing constraints, considering both earth science and basic science principles.

Journal of Advanced Applied Geology is a scientific double-blind peer-reviewed journal that aims to present and publish the latest scientific achievements of earth science and improve researchers' scientific level in various aspects of earth science.

With its outstanding collection of specimens of rocks, minerals, fossils, and bones, the Museum of Earth Sciences is the most famous Earth Sciences museum in southwest Iran. The museum contains unique and exclusive rock and mineral samples collected from various places around the world and Iran. These samples include various types of volcanic, plutonic and metamorphic rocks (basalt, peridotite, gabbro, granitoid, schist, gneiss, and hornfels). Among other collections, the mineral collection is one of the most complete ones in Iran. It contains more than 200 pieces of silicate and ore minerals together with their thin-sections for microscopic studies.

Also, this museum represents a great collection of microfossils, macrofossil (Vertebrate, Invertebrate, and plant), nannofossil slides, palynomorph slides and microscopic thin sections which are exceptionally significant. There are more than 5000 specimens and slides at the fossil part of the geology department. There are numerous different fossils from the Paleozoic to the Cenozoic such as Trilobitomorpha, Brachiopod, Porifera, Corals, Bivalves, Cephalopod, Graptolite, Fish, Plants, and Echinodermata.

Nannofossils, Foraminifera, Conodonts, Palynomorphs are available in isolated specimens, thin sections and slides at the museum.

Other fossils in the museum that are unique in the country include Archeopteryx (a genus of bird-like dinosaurs), Plesiosaur (Jurassic marine reptile), Mammoth teeth and Neanderthal skulls.

The fossil museum is one of the most spectacular and individual attractions for every visitor in the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz which displays the history of life in Iran and the world.
